Before the end of November 2018, the 29th SPS IPC Drives event was held in Nuremberg, Germany, and our team was there!
Some key facts and figures: Over 65,700 visitors walked through the 136,000 square metres of exhibition space (spread out through 17 exhibition halls!) to visit the 1,630 exhibitors. That's a huge achievement, especially as the event prepares to change its name from 2019 onwards: from SPS IPC Drives to SPS – Smart Production Solutions.
Smart Automation and Industry 4.0 were key topics in the show, with multiple talks and booths revolving around software that helped companies embrace digitalisation.
“It is one of the strengths of this exhibition that buzzwords such as Industrie 4.0. and digital transformation are not only transported into the exhibition halls, but intensive talks where these subjects are turned into concrete results can take place.” - Udo Aull, Managing Director CSO SEW Eurodrive.
There were guided tours that touched on industrial automation topics, as well as a supporting program that looked at smart production and cybersecurity in manufacturing.
Two halls were dedicated to IT solutions in manufacturing, and it was interesting to see the visions for the worlds of tomorrow, full of automation and Internet of Things (IoT) sensors.
