IFA 2018, the consumer electronics and home appliances trade show, was held in Berlin over the last week! Our In Mind Cloud team took some time to listen to the new advances in Industry 4.0 technologies, in particular, Artificial Intelligence, Voice Recognition, and Smart devices in the manufacturing market.
“Globally, the market for home appliances diverged in 2018: in many regions the market for small and major domestic appliances continued to grow. In that area health and well-being, as well as food preparation and cordless devices were major trends. In the market for major domestic appliances there was a decline which the trend towards better-equipped, higher-quality devices should be able to absorb in the second half of 2018. Other recognizable trends include multi-purpose, interconnected appliances“, said Dr. Reinhard Zinkann, chairman ZVEI devision major Home Appliances .
With 1,814 exhibitors and over 245,000 visitors, this year's event focused on the international aspect of the industry, with partner event CE China 2018 held in the same week in Shenzhen.
IFA NEXT, an Industry 4.0 showcase area, also took center stage with a number of talks and demonstrations that revolved around new technological breakthroughs in Smart Living in the home. Shift AUTOMOTIVE, the inaugural convention, was also unveiled to discuss the future of mobility for consumers, with talks that ranged from self-driving cars, to 5G and in-vehicle technology.
“What makes IFA special is that it’s a place for many different industries – each with their expert knowledge – to share, discuss and develop their innovation and vision. Nowadays, hardly any company can innovate without partners, alliances or open eco-systems. That brings a new mindset and heralds the Age of Co-innovation“, said Dr. Christian Göke, CEO of Messe Berlin.
