The 67th IAA Commercial Vehicles 2018 was held last week in Hannover, Germany, from the 20th to the 27th of September, and our team was there! Covering a wide range of innovative technologies in the realm of logistics and automotive vehicles, IAA 2018 lived up to its slogan, "Driving Tomorrow", with a autonomous shuttle bus named "Cube" driving visitors to the show.
With over 2,174 exhibitors and 250,000 visitors milling around the 282,000 square metres of trade show ground, IAA 2018 showcased the power of automotive solutions to stay relevant in the age of Industry 4.0. From Electric Mobility to Digitalisation and New Mobility World topics, IAA 2018 ensured that participants and visitors were kept engaged.
The Digitalisation of Logistics
We were particularly interested in two Industry 4.0 events, related to Digitalisation: "The Future of Network- and Platform Providers", and "The Future of Urban Logistics".
The former was an illuminating discussion about open transport platforms and the ability for freight businesses to embrace Industry 4.0 technologies by speakers from SAP, Kapsch TrafficCom AG, and Daimler AG, while the latter was a frank look into the implications and opportunities when it came to urban logistics for the mass market.
It was enlightening to see the challenges and opportunities that manufacturers faced in Industry 4.0, even in an industry where media coverage is high, thanks to the mass market implications of the products.
We are definitely looking forward to the next IAA Commercial Vehicles event in 2020!
